Videocon Industries Limited is a large diversified Indian company headquartered in Mumbai. The Videocon group's core areas of business are consumer electronics and home appliances. In India, the group sells consumer products like color televisions, washing machines, air conditioners, refrigerators, microwave ovens, and many other home appliances, through a multi-brand strategy with the largest sales and service network in India.
Challenge
VIL Business Application including a business-critical SAP environment, which was previously running on-premise Hardware Infra. Which is coming for End of life support. VIL sought to migrate most of the on-premise systems, including SAP, to a public cloud environment.
One of the main challenges was the provisioning of the instant data centre and hardware required to run SAP enterprise software.
Sizing and costing of servers on-premise were running unnecessarily which impacted their overall economic growth. Data migration from on-premise to AWS cloud in a short period.
Why Amazon Web Services ?
VIL was looking for instance infrastructure provisioning with flexibility, agility, security, and cost-efficiency. The core AWS services supporting VIL SAP environment include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances, which provide the computing power to run the environment’s applications For storing all SAP data, VIL uses Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) as persistent storage. The features like the Lambda function is helping to automatically start and stop the EC2 instances during non-business hours, eventually saving the significantly high cost. The feature of EC2 auto-recovery helps for low-cost hardware high availability of the EC2 instances. AMI snapshots of EC2 instances will help for low-cost disaster recovery to another availability zone.

Benefits
During the migration phase, the AWS CLI tool helped for the quick transfer of huge data security on the AWS cloud. The instant provisioning of Virtual Machines and storage with secure infrastructure helped for the quick migration phase. Agility, elasticity, flexibility helped for cost optimization during the migration phase. VIL today no longer faces the CAPEX costs of refreshing a private cloud infrastructure. The company has also enhanced the speed of its business applications, including SAP.
With SAP environment running on AWS, VIL has reduced the time it takes to produce our month-end report by half. That means getting KPIs into the hands of executives sooner so they can make crucial business decisions faster.
Provisioning times for SAP instances have also dropped from weeks to days since the migration to AWS. After migration Infodart analyzed the infrastructure on AWS with cloud watch metrics and suggested various cost optimization. Now the VIL Infrastructure is running cost-effectively and securely.
Backup and restore is so efficient by using the AWS snapshot feature.
